Which checklist for which job
A recurring visit is lighter than a first-time or seasonal clean, so use the deep clean list for the first visit to a new home and when a client asks for a reset. The move-out list suits empty homes, where you can reach cabinets, closets and floors that furniture normally covers. The turnover list is built around a guest changeover, where the deadline is the next check-in rather than the amount of dust.
The kitchen list is useful on its own when a client books a kitchen-only visit, or as an add-on pass during a regular clean.
How to use a printed checklist
- Print one copy per job and clip it to a clipboard that travels in your caddy.
- Before you start, walk through with the client or read their notes, and cross out anything not included in the booking.
- Work top to bottom and room by room, so dust falls onto surfaces you have not cleaned yet.
- Tick items as you finish them. Do not tick ahead.
- Write anything you could not finish at the bottom, with the reason, and tell the client.
- Leave a copy, or take a photo of it, as a record of what was done that day.
Adjusting a checklist to your own service
A checklist should describe what you actually offer. If you do not clean inside ovens or wipe down walls, strike those lines before printing and say so in your service menu. If you add something regularly, such as changing bed linen, add it by hand. Keep wording short and in the order you physically move through a room.
For any cleaning product, follow the product label.
Plan the time as well
A checklist tells you what to do; it does not tell you how long it takes. Use the cleaning time estimator with your own room timings, and read how long it takes to clean a house for how to set those numbers.
Going further than one page
The Cleaning Business Operating Kit ($29) includes room-by-room checklists in standard, deep and move-out versions, plus the client forms and workbooks that go with them. It is also in the complete bundle with the three add-ons, $39 instead of $59. Running short-term rentals? The Airbnb Turnover Pack goes deeper on changeovers.
Printing tips
Print on standard letter or A4 paper at actual size, not scaled down, so the tick boxes stay easy to read. A clear plastic sleeve or a clipboard with a cover keeps a page usable in a wet or messy room. If you clean several homes a day, print a stack at once and keep spares in the car, so a missing page never delays a job. Some cleaners prefer a fresh sheet per visit; others reuse a laminated copy and note changes separately. Choose whichever you will actually keep up, because a checklist only helps when it is filled in during the job rather than afterwards from memory.
